In short
In Coín we remove and fill in pools on country fincas and town houses, demolish outbuildings, walls and fences, and clear the rubble the work leaves. Coín is the capital of the Guadalhorce valley, with many rural properties owned by people from northern Europe, and plots with long access tracks. Near its protected monuments and archaeological site, a técnico should confirm the procedure first.
Country fincas around Coín: the typical job
Coín lies in the middle of the Guadalhorce valley and is the capital of that comarca; the town is at about 202 m, some 33 km from Málaga. Around it, much of the housing is on country fincas rather than estates: a farmhouse that has been renovated, a pool added at some point, and a set of stores, pens and terraces built as needs changed. When those properties change hands or are modernised, the new owners often want to simplify the garden.
Requests we see in this kind of setting:
- a pool that leaks or is too large for the way the house is now used, to be filled in;
- a pool in the wrong place for a planned extension, to be removed completely;
- old stores, carports and pens to be taken down through outbuilding demolition;
- rubble piles and broken paving left by earlier works to be removed.
Old irrigation tanks and home-built pools
On fincas in the Guadalhorce valley, a pool is sometimes a converted irrigation tank, or was built by a previous owner without a clear specification. Before quoting we want to know what the walls are made of – concrete, block, or stone and mortar – how thick they are, and whether the tank is partly above ground. Mass walls of stone and mortar break differently from a reinforced concrete shell, and a raised tank has a wall that may also hold back soil on the uphill side.
For a tank or pool that is fully in the ground, an infill with the floor opened for drainage is usually enough. For a raised tank, the safer route is often to lower it in stages and keep any section that acts as a retaining wall, after your técnico has checked it. Our guide how a swimming pool is demolished walks through both cases.
Protected sites in and around Coín
The church and convent of Santa María de la Encarnación has been a Bien de Interés Cultural (Monument) since 2008, and the Llano de la Virgen archaeological site is also listed as a Bien de Interés Cultural. Since 2024, the demolition of constructions in Andalusia is generally processed by declaración responsable, but buildings in a protected setting or in an archaeological zone still need a licencia urbanística.
A garden job on a finca outside the town is unlikely to be affected, but if your property is near either site, or in the old centre, ask your técnico to confirm the procedure with the Ayuntamiento de Coín first. The municipality has also had marble, dolomite and sand quarries; where you know the ground is rock close to the surface, mention it, because it affects how deep a pool can be broken out and how the infill is drained.
Clearing the finca and organising it from abroad
Once the demolition is done, we take away the rubble and remains and leave a basic, compacted level through our plot clearance after demolition. Material is sorted into concrete and ceramics, metal, wood and plastic and delivered to an authorised facility, and you receive the receipts. Clean crushed material from the pool walls can go back into the infill.
Long tracks and gates are normal here, so we check access from photos before committing to a machine size. You can write to us in English, leave a key with a neighbour or caretaker and follow the job through photos. For the demolition of a whole farmhouse, see house demolition in Coín on our sister site; for old fibre-cement roofs on finca buildings, see uralita removal in the Valle del Guadalhorce.

Frequently asked questions
Can you fill in an old irrigation tank that was used as a pool?
Yes. The walls are lowered, the floor is opened so water drains and the space is backfilled in compacted layers; any wall that retains soil is assessed first.
We are buying a finca near Coín. Can you look at the pool before we decide?
Yes. Send us photos and the location, or we can visit; we explain whether an infill or a full removal makes sense and what affects the cost.
Is a finca near the Llano de la Virgen site treated differently?
It may be. Demolition in an archaeological zone still needs a licence, so your técnico should check with the ayuntamiento first.
Can you demolish stores and pens as well as the pool?
Yes, in the same job. Fibre-cement roofing that may contain asbestos is removed by a RERA-registered company working as our subcontractor.
What if the ground under the pool is rock?
Then the pool may not be broken out as deeply, and drainage of the infill needs more care. Tell us what you know about the ground and we plan around it.
Do you clear the whole finca of scrub?
We remove what the demolition leaves behind. Clearing vegetation on its own is not a standard service, so please ask first.
Is there a deposit for construction waste?
The town hall may require a deposit or guarantee for construction waste, set in its ordinance and returned once delivery to an authorised manager is proven.
How do I get a price?
Send photos, the municipality, rough dimensions and access details for a written, no-obligation quote. For a rounded band first, use the calculator on our pricing site.
Can a pool be removed in winter?
Yes, and many owners prefer it because the garden is not in use. Heavy rain can pause backfilling, since wet fill should not be compacted.
Do I need a técnico for a pool removal?
The technical documentation that the ayuntamiento asks for is prepared and signed by a técnico competente. Its scope depends on the job and the town hall.
